In the face of the ever-changing information environment, information literacy is receiving more and more attention as an important capability. The Information Literacy Framework for Higher Education, published in 2016,is an official document used by the American Association of University and Research Libraries(ACRL)to replace the old information literacy standards. Its novel structure and concept have aroused enthusiastic response and have been used as a programmatic document for university information literacy education. The supporting theories of the Framework is “threshold concept” and “metaliteracy”.The Framework expands the definition of traditional information literacy, pays attention to the guidance of students' emotions, and introduces the concept of “metacognition” from the field of education. Its advanced concept is worthy of reference for the information literacy education of Chinese universities. For a long time, the information literacy education of universities in China is the responsibility of the university libraries. In the theoretical research and teaching practice of information literacy education, foreign university libraries have achieved more excellent results. In contrast, the official guidance documents related to information literacy in China are insufficient, and the theoretical research on information literacy education needs to be strengthened. The overall teaching practice is still in the pilot exploration stage.Combining the research background of information literacy education at home and abroad, this thesis introduces the two basic theories of the Framework – “threshold concept” and “metaliteracy”,and analyzes the overall structure of the Framework and the six threshold concepts.Based on the Framework, the goal of college information literacy education is the seven qualities that students with information literacy should have. Then, through one-on-one interviews with the students of 10 “985 Project” schools,I investigated the current situation of information literacy education of Chinese university libraries, and understood the main forms, contents, advantages and disadvantages of information literacy education of Chinese university libraries. At present, there are four main problems in the information literacy education of Chinese university libraries: focusing on skills training rather than the cultivation of thinking habits;lack of continuity in the education process;not paying attention to the influence of social networks;lack of cooperation with other organizations. Then it shows four excellent education cases of foreign university libraries—first-year librarians, metaliteracy MOOC,embedded metaliteracy teaching, metaliteracy badging system, and analyzes their advantages worthy of reference for Chinese university libraries. At the end of the thesis, according to the relevant concepts and training objectives of the Framework, combined with the problems existing in China, and drawing on excellent foreign cases,it summarizes four progressive optimization strategies based on the student's progress from enrollment to graduation: first-year librarian matching system, improving general courses' design, promoting embedded information literacy teaching and developing evaluation system. This thesis analyzes the ACRL Framework, investigates the current situation of information literacy education of Chinese universities by interviews, analyzes the shortcomings of Chinese university libraries in this respect, and draws on excellent foreign cases to explore the optimization strategies for information literacy education of Chinese university libraries.I hope to contribute to the reform of information literacy education that is being promoted in Chinese universities.
