Studies have shown that the "First Lady" news reports in the news media reflect,to a certain extent, the public activities of the "First Lady" and the national image they display, and they can also reflect the construction intentions and methods of the news media. This study collected news reports about China's "First Lady" published by People's Daily from 1949 to 2018.It used frame theory as a research methodology and content analysis method as a research method. It studied China's "First Lady" media image and its changes by high-level and low-level approaches. This study found that:(1)The Chinese official media attaches great importance to the construction of the media image of the "First Lady".The changes in the media image present two main characteristics.First is the number of media reports, showing "n" shape,"N" shape and "M" shape features,"M" shape features can also be divided into four stages.Second, the media image of China's “First Lady” changes from “formulaic style” to “live style”.Especially in the era of new media and the new era of political development in China, the media image of Peng Liyuan's “First Lady” is even more abundant,three-dimensional and vivid.(2)The media image of China's "First Lady" is mainly expressed through reporting issue and reporting framework. When the “First Lady” of China participated in public activities independently, its reporting topics were mainly related to public welfare and cultural and arts related affairs;in addition, the escort framework is the main reporting framework for constructing the “First Lady” media image of China, and the policy framework, the ceremonial framework and the obligatory framework are in a secondary position.(3)During Peng Liyuan's period, the framework of the media image remains same in general with little changes. At this stage, the “first lady” fever has formed in China, and the media image has been fully reflected in such aspects as “quantity”,“quality”,“topic” and “framework”.During the period of Peng Liyuan, the total number of reports by the “First Lady” and the average annual report volume reached the highest level in history, and the percentage of news reports with the “First Lady” as the main subject of the report was much higher than that of other “First Lady”.In this era,the political and diplomatic issues have declined, while public welfare and cultural and artistic issues have greatly increased, the proportion of compulsory and ceremonial frameworks has significantly increased, and the proportion of escort frameworks has decreased accordingly. The media image of the First Lady of China follows the universal framework of the world, but it also highlights its own culture. This study found that the "first lady" activity degree reflected by the media image is related to the development of the country and the political operation.Cultural difference is the main factor that differentiates the "first lady" media image in China from other countries.Personal charisma and the background of the times contributed to the China's "First Lady" fever of Peng Liyuan. This study considered that it is necessary to attach importance to the role of the “First Lady” in complementing the role of the top leader, enhancing the country's soft power, and demonstrating women. It suggested that the “first lady” should be rooted in the local traditional culture in shaping the media image of the “First Lady”.At the same time,it actively promoted the institutionalization of the “First Lady” diplomacy and gave the First Lady more room for independence.
