| Since the declaration that China has moved into the new era of the construction of the socialist society with Chinese characteristics has been announced in the 19 th national congress of the Communist Party of China,main social contradictions and basic situations in China's society have changed.Facing the complex domestic and global situations,when referring to national and international hot issues,the enhancement of national identity should always be regarded as a non-negligible political mission.Political rituals held periodically in various scales disseminate relevant political signals,which furthermore makes contributions to consolidate the existing political system and social formation.It is a strategic action that spread the conceptual perception of national identity frequently.The military parade is the representative political ritual which strengthens political identity and national identity by the way that makes it a military carnival as well as a public entertainment.The research will use a ritual view of communication to explore that how does the nation make efforts on the construction of national identity with the extremely special and ceremonious ritual V-Day Parade.The national identity in this research concretely located at the conception of Anti-Fascist Spirit.The research reveals that military parade not only constructed the political performance itself,but also it built the conception of Anti-Fascist Spirit,that is,V-Day Parade here exists two ritual constructions:1.The construction of political performance-V-Day Parade.Living in different construct systems means living in different social lives.2.The construction of Anti-Fascist Spirit.The concept of Anti-Fascist Spirit in the new period of the socialist society with Chinese characteristics includes three levels: the definition of peace,the backup force of peace,the approach of peace.The research will take the theory of ritual communication proposed by James W Carey as an academic approach,considering the ritual as theater,ritual performance as the ideal projection of social existence,and the symbolic system formed by V-Day Parade as a popular drama.All symbols,including materialized symbols,behavioral symbols,societal symbols,made up of a meaning system.And the Anti-Fascist Spirit can be regarded as the original play in back stage.Military ritual provided participants with common situational conditions while ritual procedures led people into all-around encounter so that they can begin remarkable dialogues on the ritual topic.In the course of the ritual,a common belief emerged in individuals and they made a passionate vow until the end of the ritual.But the impressions of recall,affection,enthusiasm,cheer,satisfaction remained in people's minds.The result of ritual conversation is the birth of moral rules with social values and the mental concepts constructed by symbol systems also become part of morality in daily life.The military parade assured that as the spiritual source of national identity,the emotional energy-ritual unity,loyalty,and sacrifice,patriotism-was remained.In order to make a profound analysis,academic thoughts from émile Durkheim,Victor Tuner,Randall Collins,Erving Goffman,Arnold van Gennep will also be added to the research.The research will be divided into six sections.In the introduction part,research background,research values,research design,theoretical models and innovative elements of the research have been clearly clarified.Meanwhile,the literature review has been completed in this section.The first chapter “The Ritualized Military Parade,Political Identity and Anti-Fascist Spirit” clarified two levels of content: firstly,as political ritual,how did military parade function in the declaration of power and implication of symbolization;secondly,as the spiritual source of national identity,how did the concept of Anti-Fascist Spirit built by military parade enhance political identity and national identity.The second chapter “Ritual as Theater: the Symbolized Construction of V-Day Parade” researched that how did ritual theater promote the construction,analyzing the operation of front stage,ritual performance,back stage.All above actions of symbols established a semiotic system.The third chapter “Representations of Ritual: the Conceptual Construction of Anti-Fascist Spirit” analyzed that how did V-Day Parade complete the construction of the concept of Anti-Fascist Spirit.This action also proposed new interpretation to “Peace”,namely the definition of peace,the backup force of peace,the approach of peace in a progressive relationship,and finally the core theme that “PLA safeguard the peace of the country”.The fourth chapter “Imaginary Field of Ritual: Living in Different Constructive Systems” interpreted that what constructive systems have been created in diverse military parades-National Day Military Parade,the Military Parade to mark the 90 th anniversary of the founding of the PLA,V-Day Military Parade.The three sorts of constructive systems presented different social reality and reality is such a constructive outcome.People who live in different constructive systems and receive the respective meaning systems exist in different social lives.In conclusion,the world is a big theater whose front stage is always working and meaningful dramas staged one by one.Only if the back stage operates all the time and only if the ritual always exists,the reality will continually be under the construction. |
