Non-state-owned museums are obviously different from state-owned museums in initiator as well as category of collection and exhibition, etc. The former boasting distinctive identities plays a great role in promoting the development of China's museum industry. The non-state-owned museum emerged in 1905 and sprang up again during 1990 s in China. After decades of development, the institutions have served as an important part of socialist cultural undertakings in China. In recent years, there has been a potential trend that the non-stateowned museum will emulate their counterparts. In such a context,nonstate-owned museums in Anhui Province are also growing in their number, scale and investment. This thesis attempts to gain a basic understanding of the non-stateowned museums in Anhui Province and identify restraints on their development by investigating these repositories. And after analyzing the limitations, the article proposes solutions accordingly. The investigation was generally conducted in accordance with the research procedures of "Problems Presentation-Data Collection-Investigation Design and Analysis-Problems Summary-Conclusion and Suggestions".In the paper the first part discusses the background, significance and purpose of the topic selection, and puts forward ideas and methods for the research. The second one elaborates the design, process and results analysis of the survey. The third section analyzes and summarizes the findings obtained and points out primary causes that hinders the development of Anhui's Non-state-owned Museums. The fourth part makes recommendations on the basis of the problems found. And the fifth gives conclusion and prospect of this investigation. On the whole, since the non-state-owned museums in Anhui Province are still in their infancy, there are common failures in the cause, such as inadequate implementation of supporting policies,non-standardmanagement of collections,a lack of professional talents, poor performance of exhibitions, and a shortage of funds. It is proposed that government departments concerned actively implement related incentive policies and set up correlative systems, including a strict approval system,an assessment mechanism, and a withdraw system;and the non-state-owned museums clarify property rights as soon as possible, improve the training mechanism for talents, actively participate in the non-state-owned museum alliances, explore the establishment of Museum Club, and actively cooperate with universities.
