The Frame Analysis Of "Not In My Backyard" Reports From Chinese Mainstream Media

This paper uses the research methods of content analysis and frame analysis to discuss the topic of "Not in My Backyard(NIMBY)",and selects seven waste incineration power generation projects as the research object,which were exposed by Chinese mainstream media and have wide effect all over the country,such as waste incineration power generation project of Beijing Liulitun,waste incineration power generation project of Guangzhou Panyu,etc.This paper selects People's Daily,Economic Daily and local daily paper,evening paper,times,city daily etc of which seven waste incineration power generation projects place as media selection,according the six standards of how to judge mainstream media which were listed by the Xinhua News Agency's research group reports of "Research on the effectiveness and influence of public opinion guidance".The purpose of this paper is to explore the frames reports of "Not in My Backyard(NIMBY)" in Chinese mainstream media and their characteristics.Firstly,This paper uses for reference of Gaye Tuchman' frame definition,and combines Gamsom's frame analysis methods to discern eight frames of "Not in My Backyard(NIMBY)" news reports from Chinese mainstream media,that is the frame of urban development,the frame of government affairs open,the frame of risk communication,the frame of conflict fact,the frame of government stability,the frame of public fight for their rights,the frame of public trust,the frame of the public know about NIMBY.Secondly,this paper finds that eight frames have different characteristics.There are competition and cooperation between these eight frames.And these eight frames have different characteristics in expression.Finally,this paper offers two suggestions to "Not in My Backyard(NIMBY)" news reports of Chinese mainstream media.
