In the sense of communications,the history of American Election is the mirror of media development as well.Throughout the history of the United States,"out-going" presidents appeared a lot during the president election,and their victories often mean the arrival of a new era of communication.Roosevelt was referred to as "Radio President",Kennedy called "TV President",and Obama named "Internet President ",for example.In2016,Trump was called "Social Media President".Mr Trump can almost be seen as a "Surprised President",who was not supported by the mainstream media before the election,but defeated democratic candidate Hillary.However,the mainstream media,represented by the New York Times supported Mrs Clinton,they did not bring back the Democratic Party but the mainstream media's collective reflection on the predict failure.The writer uses the theory of framework as the theoretical basis basing on Taiwan scholar Zang Guoren's theory of high,medium and low division of the theoretical framework,using the methods of content analysis and discourse to analyze the frame of the New York Times' report of 2016 U.S.presidential election.The author does the research through the analyzing the report number and length,report items,report structure,report tone,to explore the New York Times constructed of high,medium and low-level framework.Facing the "failure" of mainstream media framework,this paper summarizes the New York Times' ‘failure' framework,rethinks the mainstream media's failure,analyzes the problems of mainstream media,including the ‘lost' of news professionalism objectivity,the existing problems of mainstream media,and self effective positioning of mainstream media,as well as the mainstream media's past ‘guide' halo of ‘construction',etc.Combining the new media and new ways of social media and new media,this paper explores the way of future development of mainstream media.Enhancing influence with new media strength,formulating new development strategies,mainstream media should actively seek the way of integration.
