In recent years,China's environmental problems have been the focus of Western media. In 2013,China's smog weather continued to occur and gradually developed in the direction of normalization, which attracted the attention of Western media and became an important topic in its environmental news.Under the systematic governance of the Chinese government,by2020,China's smog weather will be significantly reduced, and the overall air quality will be improved. This paper selects all 128 reports on China's smog in the New York Times from 2013 to2020 as the research object, and takes Gamson's "Interpretative Package" framework theory as the analysis path to refine and analyze the framework of China's smog reports in the New York Times. It is found that the New York Times adopts the risk fact framework, responsibility attribution framework, risk governance framework, risk management framework, and risk management framework The conflict framework and progress Framework Report on China's smog problem, which implies a negative bias towards China, and the journalistic professionalism was impacted. The research ideas of this paper are as follows:The first chapter introduces the collection objects and process of the research samples. On this basis,it presents the number distribution, reporting stage, reporting genre and sources of smog reports in China of the new york times as a whole. It is found that the overall number of reports fluctuates greatly and presents the characteristics of periodicity;the reporting stage can be divided into crisis outbreak stage, crisis reflection and response stage and media attention decline stage;the news accounts for the highest proportion in the reporting genre;the information sources are mainly authoritative sources, taking into account the folk sources. The second chapter analyzes the process and results of framework refining.Based on the analysis of the high-frequency words and 13 reporting angles of the samples, five thematic frameworks of smog reporting in New York Times are extracted: risk fact framework, responsibility attribution framework, risk governance framework, conflict framework and progress framework, and the change trend of the five frameworks is described. The third chapter deeply analyzes the text of each frame.Based on Gamson's Interpretative Package, this paper analyzes the framing devices and reasoning devices in the five frameworks, mainly including metaphor, slogan, illustration, description, reason and result in the text,so as to reveal the construction logic and hidden value attitude of the framework. The fourth chapter analyzes the reporting framework of smog in China of the New York Times. It is found that the contents and sources of the framework reflect the negative bias of the New York Times on China's smog, which shows that the New York Times has not met the objectivity requirements of journalistic professionalism. The reasons for the negative bias are analyzed from three aspects: national interests and Sino US relations, ideology, commercial interests and news values.Starting from the issue of haze,we can see whether the western mainstream media objectively show the effectiveness of the Chinese government's governance of haze and the positive changes of China's ecological environment. This paper criticizes the negative accusations and non objective reports of the New York Times on China's environment, hoping that Chinese media can take the initiative in international environmental communication, show the positive changes of China's environment, and establish a good image of China's ecological environment.
