Study On The Construction Of University Library Information Commons In Network Environment

Content: With the expansion of information resources, and the contradiction between the diversity of users'need and the limitation of services that libraries can provide, the traditional ways of services of university libraries are facing severe challenges. Information Commons, (IC for short) integrates the current resources and services of a library, creates a free and easy sharing environment and provides one-stop information service for its users. Information Commons has promoted information literacy education, and to some extent has eased the contradictions in university libraries. Information Commons represents the new development trend of university libraries, meets readers'and researchers'need for access to information and exchange of information, and establishes a "user-oriented" way of service and an easy sharing and learning environment.Based on the background mentioned above, this research paper focuses on the construction of Information Commons, describing its status quo, and making a systematic and comprehensive study on the subject through various methods, such as ways of practice and research, comparative analysis, and induction. The topic of this research paper covers many aspects of Information Commons, which offers people a comprehensive and deep understanding of Information Commons, and promotes the development of new ways of services in university libraries, thus advancing the sustainable development of China's library cause.The research paper can be divided into four main parts:The first part gives a conspectus of Information Commons, and expounds the concept, the characteristics, realization patterns and the important role of Information Commons in the development of university libraries.The second part describes the process of building the Information Commons in university libraries, including the principles, methods and measures. It studies the successful case of the construction of Information Commons in Shanghai Normal University Library and Indiana University Bloomington in U.S.
