After-school exercises in Chinese textbooks,as an important carrier of learning activities, should guide students to build abilities and improve literacy in active and independent language practice. This is the inevitable requirement of the practical characteristics of Chinese subject and the change of learning style under the background of core literacy.Activity theory provides an analytical framework for the study of various activities in human society. It pays attention to the subjectivity, dynamics and dialogue of activities, and effectively avoids the research bias of non-subject,static and de-contextualization.It is a good entry point for the study of after-class exercise design in Chinese textbooks. From the perspective of activity theory, this paper studies the design of after-class exercises of classical Chinese poems and essays in junior middle school textbooks from two aspects of theoretical research and case analysis, which embodies the research ideas from theory to practice and from abstraction to concrete. The first and second chapters are the theoretical research. The first chapter mainly introduces the development stages and main points of activity theory, and on this basis, clarifies the basic elements of activities in after-class exercises: learner, learning content, learning community and assignment of learning tasks.Chapter two explores the basic characteristics and design principles of activities in after-class exercises.Compared with the activities researched by activity theory, the activities of after-class exercises are more targeted, and have the basic characteristics of practicality, comprehensiveness, authenticity and cooperation. The design principle is mainly manifested in three points: subjectivity design based on students, situational design originated from real life, comprehensive design based on activity itself.Chapters three and four are case analysis.Chapter three takes the activity design of after-class exercises of classical Chinese poems and essays in the textbooks compiled by ministry of education for the seventh to ninth grades as the main research object, and then analyses the activities from three aspects of subjectivity, situationality and comprehensiveness, finally summarizes useful experience and finds out the shortcomings.Chapter four extensively draws lessons from the excellent examples of activity design in after-class exercises and Chinese test questions in different countries and regions, such as the United States,Hong Kong and Taiwan, and puts forward relevant strategies from three aspects of motivation stimulation, situational creation and activity integration, based on the deficiencies of the Chinese textbooks compiled by ministry of education, which can provide some reference for improving the activity design in the after-class exercises of classical Chinese poems and essays in the textbooks compiled by ministry of education.
