As neighbors for thousands of years,China and India have profound historical relations. With the growth of the two countries,China-India relations will surely go broader and deeper.Middle school students are the builder of the future,so their views on India will affect China's value judgment and diplomatic policies. Therefore,it's particularly important to study the descriptions of India in textbooks which are mainstream knowledge media for shaping students' views on this country. This paper focuses on topics in sequence, giving an overall interpretation of content about India in textbooks after the founding of the People's Republic of China, from the perspective of Sino-Indian diplomatic history,India's development and Indian historical figures. But because there are fewer related contents in Indian historical figures,So instead of a single chapter,I will combine it with the development history of India. While understanding the changes in the content in textbooks, the study also reviews China's research on India and its position in the world in the past 70 years. The Sino-Indian diplomatic history and India's development contain content from ancient times to modern times in chronological order. What's more, according to the textbooks, this paper analyzes the national spirit of India from the words and deeds of Indian historical figures, including the ancient emperor Ashoka, the modern literateur representative Tagore and the national independent leader Gandhi. This study finds that the image of India in the book is vivid: Ancient India, which has a long history and developed culture, modern India has experienced many disasters and struggles;Contemporary India, which has been continually rebellious and has been reborn in the aftermath of the war,is emerging. Each historical stage has its own features but overall India is described to be friendly to China. However, after the introduction of the new curriculum standards, textbooks focus on Europe and the United States, the content span became larger,India is integrated into Asia as a whole, and the specific image faded out.In addition,The content of textbooks has shrunk, and the proportion of ancient and modern Indian content is unbalanced, leaving few words about modern India. It is a pity that students only get half of the picture for India.Although the part historical figures accounts for the smallest section, they have little change. They are the national ID cards of India with a distinct Indian historical and cultural spirit.Behind the changes in these textbooks,It is intertwined with the three-fold influence of changes in national conditions, historical views and textbooks compilation style. In order to serve the needs of the country's foreign relations and build a comprehensive and true image of India, this study provides suggestions on the preparation of history textbooks and history teaching: the content of Indian history in textbooks should be kept up to date, objective and in line with the academic situation; In history teaching, teachers should play a leading role, appropriately introducing the latest knowledge about India;in addition, teaching India history must adhere to an objective attitude and lay the foundation for the cultivation of modern global citizens.
