Biology is one of the important content of scientific education in basic education.STSE stands for science,technology,society and environment.It focuses on the cultivation of students' ability to analyze,decide and solve problems in the real world.STSE education in junior high schools can cultivate students' basic biological and scientific capability,and lay a foundation for students to participate in decision and settlement of public problems in the future.The Curriculum Standard of Compulsory Education stresses its expectations on which each student can raise a strong interest and a deeper understanding on biology and think more about the occupation and study choice in the future through learning Biology;develop better skills of inquiry,learning and problem-solving;improve a sense of responsibility,and science,innovation and environmental awareness.Therefore,it is imperative to implement STSE education of biology teaching in junior high schools.This study first clarifies the evolution and connotation of STSE education and the research history of Chinese and foreign STSE education by reviewing relevant literatures.The method of questionnaire on students and interview with teachers is adopted in the study on biology teachers and students of three junior high school,in hope of getting the practice effects and specific implementation situation of STSE education in biology teaching of current junior high schools.The survey results show that teachers show a high degree of recognition on the implementation of STSE education,but because of their own professional level,the senior high school entrance examination system,the school's support and other factors,there is a lack of confidence and motivation of carrying out STSE education.The way teachers use to implement STSE education,the senior high school entrance examination system and the family-school cooperation and guidance have direct impacts on the students' enthusiasm for learning biology.Schools lack enough support to the STSE education in the biology teaching.This paper applies content analysis method to analyze the consistency of curriculum objectives and contents of Compulsory Education Biology Curriculum Standards with STSE education purposes,summarize and analyze the STSE contents in the middle school biology textbooks of PEP edition.In the end,this paper discusses five strategies to implement the STSE education by combing the enlightenment out of the research process.
