| In the 21 st century,with the rapid development of technology,improving citizens’ scientific literacy is the basic demand for talents in the new era.The high school biology curriculum standards,which are closely related to the cultivation of talents,clearly put forward that teachers should pay attention to the implementation of the education of the relationship between science,technology and society in teaching.The core literacy objectives of biology discipline highlight that teaching should start from the needs of social development and student development,cultivate students’ innovation awareness and social responsibility.STSE education has evolved from STS education,with the former consisting of four dimensions: science,technology,society,and environment.The educational philosophy advocates for the connection between knowledge and science,technology,society,and the environment in teaching,cultivating students to learn how to apply the knowledge they have learned to solve practical problems,and motivating them to realize that their knowledge is "useful".This is consistent with the core competencies of biology in China.This paper takes constructivist learning theory,the theory of the zone of proximal development,and situational cognition theory as the main theoretical basis,and conducts research using literature research,content analysis,questionnaire survey,interview,and educational experiment methods.Firstly,the literature research method is used to review the current research status of STSE education both domestically and internationally,determine the research content and methods,and sort out the core concepts and theoretical basis of STSE education.Secondly,based on the STSE education concept,the STSE content in the selective compulsory textbooks of high school biology was organized,statistically analyzed,and the situational materials related to STSE content in the 13 sets of test questions in the national biology exams from 2018 to 2022 were organized,statistically analyzed;Subsequently,a student questionnaire survey and teacher-student interviews were used to understand the level of STSE concepts of high school students and the current implementation of STSE education in secondary schools.The survey found that students’ level of STSE concepts is at a moderate level,and students are more interested in STSE content in teaching.Teachers also believe that incorporating STSE education in teaching can better attract students’ interest,expand their knowledge,and promote the cultivation of core competencies.However,due to objective reasons such as class hours,there is relatively little penetration in teaching.Based on the above research,two classes of students with comparable levels were selected as the research subjects in the second year of senior high school in the internship school.The content design of selective compulsory textbooks was integrated into the STSE content teaching case,and a one semester teaching practice study was conducted in the high school biology classroom.After the practice,the students’ STSE concept level was tested.After one semester,the academic performance and STSE concept level scores of the two classes were compared before and after the test,It has been found that integrating STSE education into teaching has a better teaching effect,and students’ level of STSE concepts has been improved.The research results indicate that the STSE content in high school biology textbooks and college entrance examination biology questions is rich,covers a wide range,novel,and closely related to social production and life,which has important value in cultivating students’ core biological literacy;During the post test,the average academic scores of both classes were higher than those of the October monthly exam.The students’ STSE concept level showed significant differences in the average values of students’ STSE concept level in all four dimensions were significantly different from the pre test,and the dimension with the greatest difference between the two classes was science and technology methodology.Therefore,integrating STSE education into teaching can enhance students’ interest in learning biology,cultivate students’ scientific thinking attitude and social responsibility awareness through various teaching forms,and ultimately promote the cultivation of students’ core subject literacy.Based on the research results,several suggestions are proposed for integrating STSE education into high school biology teaching: 1.Pay attention to the STSE education resources in textbooks and test questions.2.Pay attention to the development of cutting-edge biotechnology.3.Pay attention to the utilization of local curriculum resources and improve the characteristics of the discipline.4.Improve the evaluation system. |
