Art criticism belongs to the middle stream of topics between literary and non-literary texts, integrating the appeal of narratives and the accuracy of factual language.Translators of art criticism texts may tend to dwell more on linguistic expressiveness of the translated text than on the completeness and accuracy of the message to be rendered in the translation. There exists little research on art criticism translation. Most researchers in the field tend to provide a list of translation skills without pointing out the focus and principles in translating art criticism texts.Another limitation associates with their insufficient theoretical framework. In response to the above two limitations, the author in this thesis draws on Gile's message theory and points out some principles of message delivery. The author proposes that in translating art criticism texts, focus must be placed on message delivery.Translators have to re-express completely and accurately the message that the text's author want to deliver in the target-language text before they shift their focus to language refinement. The author will recognize the common message delivery challenges based on these principles and propose some optimizing strategies to integrate the appeal and accuracy of the translated language.
