Discussion On Strategies For Accurate Message Delivery In Chinese-English Translation Of Informative Texts A Case Study Based On The Translation Of "Double First-class Initiative" Of Shanghai Universities

Based on a case study of a Chinese-English translation project in which the author has participated,translation of a series of articles concerning the “Double First-class Initiative” of Shanghai universities,this paper discusses differences between the Chinese and Western ways of thinking and logic systems as exemplified in Chinese and English linguistic expressions and textual coherence.Following the discussion and analysis of what challenges these differences may pose to English translators of Chinese informative texts and possible reasons why inaccurate message delivery often occurs in such translation projects,some strategies are tentatively proposed in this paper for solving the problems caused by insufficient attention paid by the translator to objectivity and coherence in English texts.The objectivity of English text can be achieved by selecting appropriate subjects,and textual coherence requires reasonable use of cohesive means,specifically adding connective words and forming a flow of information.This paper is expected to provide some useful reference for future translators of similar projects on how to improve the accuracy of message delivery in translated texts.
