A Report On The Commentary Interpreting In Tangshan Earthquake Relief Memorial Hall

On May 1^st 2019,the author provided a commentary interpreting service for an American tourist in Tangshan Earthquake Relief Memorial Hall.This report is the analysis and conclusion on the commentary interpreting service.And the commentary mainly focuses on the introduction to the Tangshan Earthquake;it also involves the industrial development of Tangshan in modern times as well as the heroic deeds of people in Tangshan during the earthquake relief and the reconstruction.In this report,the author first introduces the background information and the characteristics of the commentary interpreting.Then the author describes the process of the commentary interpreting.Having reviewed the whole interpreting process,the author puts forward the interpreting strategies to solve the difficulties encountered such as slogans with Chinese characteristics,information-intensive sentence clusters and various text types.As for slogans with Chinese characteristics,the author adopts amplification and free translation to address them,aiming to convey the connotations of the slogans.And the author employs restructuring and simplification to interpret information-intensive sentence clusters in an effort to present the clear logic.Besides,the author introduces Newmark's Text Typology Theory to analyze various text types in the commentary:the informative text is the truthful information on facts and data,so the author applies linear interpreting and conversion to cope with the text type;whereas the expressive text focuses on the attitude and emotion of the speaker,so the author uses specification and switch of figures of speech accordingly.Finally,the author makes the reflection and proposes some suggestions based on the commentary interpreting practice.The author hopes this commentary interpreting practice will lay the foundation for his future work and provide helpful reference for the interpreters in this field.
