Apractice Report On The Commentary Translation Of Baoding Military Academy Memorial Hall

Baoding Military Academy was founded in 1902 and closed in 1923.The Memorial Hall and the Military Academy Square were built at the original site.Known as “the cradle of China's modern military generals”,Baoding Military Academy is the earliest,largest,most complete,and most formal military school in the history of modern military education in China.Since its establishment in 1993,the Memorial Hall has received more than 2 million visitors from home and abroad.It has become a patriotic education base,and a revolutionary education base for the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang and the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party.This project is a Chinese-English translation of the commentary of Baoding Military Academy Memorial Hall.The translator was entrusted by the Memorial Hall to translate its commentary.Through the translation,the translator had a deeper understanding of local tourism resources,her historical knowledge was enriched.The translator has also improved her translation skills,and gained a further understanding of translation theory.Based on the translation task,this report comprises five chapters: task description,process description,preparations for translation,case analysis and conclusion.The first chapter is task description,which includes project introduction,source,requirements,thesis structure and the significance of the project.The second chapter is process description,it mainly includes the pre-translation preparation stage,the translation stage and the post-translation review stage.The third chapter is preparations of the translation,which is a more specific step of the preparation,it is a preparation for theory,background information and parallel texts.The forth chapter is case analysis,it includes the translation of Chinese measurement units,Chinese couplets and the translation of different kind of words and sentences.The fifth chapter is conclusion,solving practical problems with the theory of translation.By using the translation knowledge the translator has learned,this report completed the task of Chinese-English translation.In this process,the translator mainly used Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory and Peter Newmark's language function.
