A Practice Report On Consecutive Interpreting Of Museum Commentary Under The Guidance Of Cultural Schema Theory

This practice report is based on the author's interpreting practice on commentary of China Bronze Ware Museum.By analyzing the cases in transcript,the author classifies and analyzes the difficulties related to cultural information in the following three points: difficulties in interpreting the words related to culture including terminology,culture-loaded words and proper nouns;difficulties in interpreting the sentences in classical Chinese;difficulties in interpreting the allusions.Under the guidance of Cultural Schema Theory,the author puts forward pre-interpreting preparation strategies include collecting knowledge about the theme of the interpreting,understanding relevant literature and allusions about the theme and understanding target audience's comprehension and expression of relevant cultural schema,and strategies during interpreting include activation of the existing schema,modification of the schema and reconstruction of the schema in the situations of overlap,conflict and default of Chinese and English cultural schema.By analyzing the self-assessment and the feedback from the clients,the author finds that interpreter can improve the quality of interpreting under the guidance of the Cultural Schema Theory.
