| This report is on the escort interpreting practice for British tourists to Longsha Zoological and Botanical Garden located in Qiqihar city.This practice is the interpretation of the tour commentary of the Chinese guide for British tourists during the tour of this garden.The interpreter,on the one hand,has to make the consecutive interpreting of Chinese guide’s tour commentaries;on the other hand,the consecutive interpreting is made for dealing with the questions from the British tourists,and it is not only an opportunity for the interpreter to practice her expertise,but also a challenge.From the perspective of the interpretive theory,what interpreters convey is meaning of the source language instead of the source language itself.Therefore,the proper interpreting strategies such as amplification,omission and inversion should be used to convey this meaning and overcome the barrier of cultural differences.At the same time,the difficulties and problems encountered during the interpreting of tour commentaries can be solved so as to help British tourists understand the scenic spots of Qiqihar well and know better about the culture of China.Finally,the interpreting experience and deficiency are summarized and a feasible method for the escort interpreting is raised in this report.Through this interpreting practice,the interpreter realizes that the interpretive theory is of great value in guiding the practice of escort interpreting,and she also knows that there is a hard and long way to go to become a qualified interpreter.The interpreter sincerely hopes that this report would offer the useful reference for other interpreters of tour commentary. |
