Since the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative,China and other participating countries have carried out wide ranges of cultural exchanges via the tourism industry. The booming tourism and travel businesses have not only stimulated consumption, but also promoted mutual understanding between different cultures in the world.Under this background, tourism text,as one of the materials for travel promotion, has been increasing in quantity and become more and more important in facilitating cultural exchanges, and the translation of tourism texts has also drawn wide attention from academic and industrial circles. In China, the translation of tourism texts into English is especially a prominent topic. The tourism texts discussed in this report are excerpted from a Henan tourist brochure compiled by China National Tourism Administration. The entire translation practice and subsequent proofreading was undertaken by the author herself independently.Guided by Reiss’s text typology, this report selects several cases of the translation practice to analyze the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation process, and to provide the refined translation in accordance with specific text types. In the end,the report summarizes the translation techniques used in the translation process in order to provide reference and inspiration for other English translation practitioners of tourism texts. In addition, the report explores the significance of Reiss’s text typology for guiding the translation of tourism texts. It proposes that among three text functions appellative function takes priority in the process of translating tourism texts,so the emphasis of the translation should be laid on the operative aspect of text and its intended perlocutionary effect. The translation should be oriented towards target readers to whet their appetites and stimulate their desire to visit and consume.
