A Report On The Translation Of The Pivot-china For 3000 Years(Exordium)

In recent years,there has been a historical boom in China.In the book market,there are not only a large number of works rewriting Chinese history from various perspectives,but also a large number of translated works about Chinese history.However,the quality of the translation is mixed.The main problem is that the translator does not analyze the original text.They ignore that the special functions and communicative purposes of different types of historical works require different translation strategies.Combining Reiss’ s text typology theory and related translation methods,this thesis is a translation study about the exordium part of the interdisciplinary book The Pivot-China for 3000 Years,written by Chinese historian Shi Zhan.This thesis starts with the analysis for the text types of this exordium part,studies its translation practice,probes into the translation characteristics and translation methods of this exordium part,and presents the author’s narratives of the source text about the philosophical outline of Chinese history and the dynamic mechanism of historical evolution to Chinese and foreign readers.This paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter one mainly describes the task of translation,including the introduction for the translated text as well as the purpose and significance of this translation practice.Chapter two mainly analyzes the type of original text.Chapter three mainly describes the process of this translation practice.Chapter four mainly analyzes translation cases at lexical,syntactic and textual level.Chapter five is a conclusion of this translation practice.
