Teachers have a basic duty in educating students in the objective curriculum implementing the party’s educational policy and cultivating talents for China’s development in the new century. The "Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard(2011 Edition)" clearly mandates that English courses have the dual nature of being both instrumental in these goals and humanistic in their approach. All teachers should closely combine moral education with subject classroom teaching and endeavor to improve students’ comprehensive humanistic literacy. In line with students’ physical and mental development, primary English teachers must be proficient at generating moral education materials to incorporate into English language classroompresentations, seamlessly conducting moral infusion in English classroom curricula to achieve a win-win result between teaching and education.Based on previous research,I choose four primary schools in Haikou for close examination of their teaching methodologies. They are Experimental Primary school of Hainan Normal University in Qiongshan district,Jinpan Experimental School in Longhua district,Longfeng Experimental School in Meilan district and Coastal Ninth Primary school in Xiuying district.I review and analyze the current application of moral education incorporation in English classroom teaching in these primary schools by means of questionnaire surveys, teacher interviews, classroom observation and text analysis. This thesis attempts to present the optimal strategy of moral education and makes a systematic study of moral infusion in primary school English teaching. The thesis consists of introduction, text and conclusion. The introductiondemonstrates the theoretical significance and practical value of the study of moral education’s ‘silent infusion’ in primary school English teaching, reviews and evaluates the current research status of moral educationin primary school English teaching, and expounds upon the research content and methods of the thesis. The body of the paper consists of five parts:The first part is "investigation results and analysis of the present situation of moralinfusion in primary school English teaching".This part discusses the reasons for selecting samples within the design idea of the student questionnaire and the outline of teacherinterviews, and analyzes the results of them. Finally, this paper expounds on the ideas of classroom observation design and implementation. The second part is "the problems generated in the process of English teaching moral infusion".This part combines the questionnaire survey of students, the results of teacher interviews, the results of classroom observation and text analysis. From the moral education work of the school, the moral education consciousness and teaching methods of primary English teachers, the compilation of teaching materials, the learning attitude of students and the system of primary moral education infusion, the thesis presents a general analysis of the current situation of moral infusion in primary school English teaching. The third part is “the rational for English teaching moral infusion".Through investigation, interview, classroom observation and text analysis, this part analyzes the reasons for the moral infusion in primary school English from the four dimensions of school, primary school English teachers, teaching materials and students. The fourth part of the thesis is "Countermeasures for the optimizations of moral education in primary school English teaching".This part is based on research and teaching methodologies that present countermeasures for the optimization of primary school moral education. The fifth part of the thesis provides a summary and an overview of the limitations of the study and presents an outlook of developments likely to occur in the future.
