General Secretary Xi Jinping clearly proposed that fostering virtue through education should be regarded as the fundamental task of education in China,which shows the significance of moral education.For English course,English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)points out that English courses have the dual nature of being both instrumental and humanistic,making it possible for teachers to carry out moral education through the abundant moral content in it.On the basis of relevant literature review,the study constructs a research framework including two aspects: cognition and practice.By conducting the questionnaire survey on the current situation of carrying out moral education in English teaching of two hundred and twenty-one primary school English teachers and interviewing four teachers with different background,the study is aimed at fully exploring the cognition and practice situation concerning moral education in English teaching and the problems they encounter with in their teaching.Conclusions drawn by this study include:(1)The overall situation of primary school teachers carrying out moral education in English teaching is good.(2)The cognition situation concerning carrying out moral education in primary school English teaching is good,but the understanding of relevant concepts is relatively weak.(3)The practice situation concerning carrying out moral education in primary English teaching is good.(4)The carrying out of moral education in primary school English teaching is influenced by teachers,students as well as the environments.Based on the above results and findings,the study suggests that primary school can establish the training regime concerning carrying out moral education in primary school English teaching and set up the resource library about it.In the meantime,primary schools are supposed to construct and enhance the school culture and improve the evaluation mechanism to encourage all the teachers to contribute to carrying out moral education in primary English teaching.
