A Daughter for Christmas is a work of youth literature written by Margaret Daley. It tells the story of a father who acquires both family affection and love in the search for his daughter. This book is rich in plot and close to life, which is interesting, contemporary and enlightening.Guided by Skopos Theory, this report takes the youth reader as the center, and analyzes the translation of A Daughter for Christmas in six aspects: four-character idioms,Chinese proverbs, polysemous words, verbs, the unit of measurement and the dialogue of characters.According to the purpose rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule, the key and difficult points are studied in detail.Based on the analysis and research, the following conclusions can be drawn: First, translation of four-character phrases and proverbs under the guidance of the skopos rule can be carried out by means of literal translation, free translation, recreation, substitution and other translation methods.Second, under the guidance of the coherence rule, the translation of polysemous words and verbs requires not only the rational collocation of words, but also the emotional unity of words.Third, the translation of unit of measurement under the guidance of the fidelity rule can adopt the method of literal translation and annotation.Fourth, according to the fidelity rule, the translation of characters’ dialogue should focus on their personality and logical coherence.Through this translation practice, the translator has applied the translation skills and strategies she learned in school, which improves her translation ability and provides some theoretical enlightenment and methodological guidance for the practice and research of Chinese translation of adolescent literature. At the same time, the author hopes that the comparative list of English and Chinese idioms summarized in the process of translation will enrich the achievements of Chinese translation of foreign youth literature.
