This report is based on the practice of English-Chinese translation of IB English A:Language and Literature(Excerpt),focusing on the translation methods under the guidance of Skopos theory.IB English A: Language and Literature is an important reference book for the International Baccalaureate Examination for young people. It aims to cultivate and train learners from both language and literature aspects. The excerpted critical study part guides students to write critically through the presentation and analysis of writing cases so as to cultivate students’ critical thinking. The translation of this text is of great significance to learners’ understanding of the textbook as well as the cultivation of critical thinking. In this report, the selected texts mainly consist of two types, namely textbook text and literature text. For each text, specific cases are chosen to discuss the translation from lexical and semantic levels.Textbook texts are indicative and instructive, while complex sentence patterns and adjectives characterize literature texts. Therefore, under the guidance of Skopos theory, according to the different characteristics of each text, the author adopted different translation methods such as conversion, amplification, and division for the specific cases to achieve the translation goal.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the author adopted conversion and division to achieve the coherence and readability of the translation. The author adopted amplification, free translation, and voice conversion to meet the purpose of the original text. After the research, the author found that the same translation strategies guided by Skopos theory can be applicable to different text types.Although textbook text emphasizes the accuracy and literature text asks high demand for the fidelity of the translation, the translated version is to be used by learners, and the readability of the translation and the purpose of the original text are of great significance.Hence, the skopos rule and the coherence rule are the two essential principles during the translation.
