| Since the 21 st century,with the strengthening of China’s comprehensive national power and the expansion of its international influence,the strategy of “Chinese culture going global” has been proposed for the first time,becoming a necessary way to build a strong cultural nation and enhance the country’s cultural strength.In this context,more and more Chinese local children’s literature has been translated abroad.Two excerpts of Snow in Winter and Leaf and White Snow in Leaf in Winter that I choose belongs to this category of works.The text describes the story of nine-year-old boy named Leaf in the company of his father and friend White Snow to go through the cold winter and shows a deep father-son love and friendship.The author wants to introduce the life of Chinese children and spread Chinese culture to foreign readers of children through this translation practice.Guided by the skopos theory and its three principles,this translation practice has translated the selected text into English,and discussed translation strategies and methods.Under the guidance of the principle of skopos,the author analyzes the English translation of idioms and four-character structures,and adopts the translation strategy of domestication and literal translation method to convey the message quickly for foreign readers and achieve the purpose of communication.Under the guidance of the principle of coherence,the author analyzes the English translation of run-on sentences and sentences with serial verbs,and adopts addition,combination,order-changing translating method and part-of-speech conversion in order to achieve coherence and fluency in the text,which is in line with the reading level of children’s readers.Under the guidance of the principle of fidelity,the author analyzes the English translation of rhetorical sentences and the conversion of active sentences,uses the translation method of literal translation and conversion.The author also chooses between being faithful to the original text and being faithful to the reader and presents the content of the original text as much as possible.The translation practice has proved the feasibility of the skopos theory in guiding the translation of local children’s literature is demonstrated,and the guiding significance of the three principles of skopos theory in terms of words,sentences,and rhetoric is discussed.Under the guidance of this theory,the author has completed the transformation of the source text into the target text,conveyed the meaning of the source text as precisely as possible,and produced a highly readable target text.As a reference,it is anticipated that this article will offer helpful suggestions for the English translation of local children’s literature. |
