The source text for this translation practice report was selected from the book Literature Review and Research Design: A Guide to Effective Research Practice, written by scholar Dave Harris and first published in2020.The book is aiming at the group of students who are about to be confronted with academic writing. The author emphasizes the fundamental role of literature reading in research design, instructs students on how to use literature efficiently, and develops skills in reading literature and writing a literature review. The source text is an informative text, designed to impart knowledge and instruct students, which is highly purposeful,so the translator tried to use Skopos theory as the theoretical basis for this translation practice. The Chapter 4 of the book primarily summarizes practical problems in literature reading and provides targeted solutions. The translator considered this chapter as an important guide,so the translator used this chapter as the case for translation, and analyzed specific cases from two levels: the lexical level, and syntactic level to explain this translation practice in detail. In this report, first of all,the translator described the translation task and the translation process, then used Skopos theory as the theoretical basis and took detailed case analysis for example, and at last summarized the practical experience. In this practice, the translator accumulated practical experience in translating informative texts by exploring the guiding significance of Skopos theory for translating informative texts, which had certain significance for studying the translation value and function of source texts.
