Francisco Yus,a professor of English linguistics at the University of Alicante,is an expert in the field of cognitive pragmatics. His masterpiece,Cyberpragmatics:Internet-mediated Communication in Context can be regarded as the first monograph to study communication on the Internet from the perspective of pragmatics, which provides many important topics for the academic community. The text boasts various pragmatic terms, attributive clauses and long sentences. The report derives the E-C translation techniques of academic publications and reflections of the writer from a comparative study of the writer’s translation and the supervisor’s revision of Chapter 6.This report contains six parts.Part Ⅰ introduces the objectives and significance of the practice, and the structure of this report.Part Ⅱ gives a brief literature review of previous and current research on cyberpragmatics and the E-C translation of academic publications in general.Part Ⅲ introduces the translation task, touching upon the author, the content of the source text and its textual features.Part IV is a brief description of the translation process, including preparation, translation and revision.Based on a contrast of the writer’s translation and the supervisor’s revision,Part V summarizes the translation techniques of pragmatic terms, attributive clauses and long sentences. In this part, the writer also discusses the source text’s language style.Part VI talks about what has been learned from the very translation practice. The writer aims to improve the translation ability and provide some references for the translation of academic publications through a better reflection of the translation practice. In addition, the writer hopes to make a contribution to the completion and publication of the Chinese version of Cyberpragmatics so that it might be read by more people.
