| Academic translation is conducive to the dissemination of academic ideas and international academic exchanges. Therefore, research on academic translation has received keen attention from Chinese scholars. This paper is a report and reflection on E-C translation practice, with reference to the third chapter of Cyberpragmatics:Internet-based Communication in Context, which is written by Francisco Yus,a full professor of University of Alicante in Spain. The book is arguably the first systematic monograph on pragmatics in internet-mediated communication. The report is mainly composed of six parts. The first part introduces the purpose and the structure of this translation practice report. In the second part, the literature review of academic translation and the relevance theory involved in the book Cyberpragmatics are described. The next part is a brief introduction to the content, author of the source text and its textual characteristics. In the following part, the specific translation process is mentioned. Then comes the core of this report. In terms of textual features of the book Cyberpragmatics-covering a mass of academic terms, complex and long sentences and explicit cohesion among discourses, this report presents specific examples from the lexical, syntactic and textual levels and then sums up some feasible translation methods and techniques adopted in the practice. On the lexical level, the translators should take context into account when translating academic terms and meanwhile we should comply with norms. On the syntactic level, apart from considering languages differences between English and Chinese, the translation techniques, such as preposition, division and adverbial translation, could also be applied to attributive clauses.Besides,we can employ some skills like sequence, inversion and fusion in the translation of long sentences after finding out underlying logical relations. On the textual level, more attention should be paid to discourse transference between two different languages. In the last part, the report summarizes the future prospects, experience from as well as limitations of the current translation practice. |
