This report is based on the C-E translation practice of the prose Don’t Be too Harsh about Love written by Liu Yong. The author firstly narrates stories or anecdotes and then gives corresponding opinions to express his subjective reflections, in which hidden feelings and implications are contained. The author’s reflections are the essence of the work, for they play the role of a bridge connecting the readers and the author, so to convey those hidden feelings and implications in the target language is the primary task in translation. Considering this, Interpretive Theory is chosen as the guidance theory to help the translator analyze the author’s reflections in the original work and convey the hidden feelings and implications to the target readers in a proper way, because the theory demands the translator to understand and extract the meaning of the original text, consider the requirements of target readers, and work to realize the equivalence of meaning on the basis of being loyal to the original text.This report mainly analyzes the translation from two perspectives, namely word translation and sentence translation, and then proposes some corresponding techniques such as literal translation with annotation, amplification, omission, semantic explication, reinventing sentence structures, and reframing discourses, etc. The report is composed of four parts which are description of the task, description of the translation process, corresponding techniques and conclusion. Through analyzing, Interpretive Theory is proved proper to guide the translation of the author’s reflections in literary works. The scope of the application of the theory is further expanded.
