This is an English-Chinese translation report.The original text is excerpted from Better Behavior: A Guide for Teachers,whose author is Jarlath O'Brien,a famousbehavior expert in Britain.The book was published by Sage Press,and no Chinese translation has been found up to now.This book offers teachers a series of behavioral suggestions from both theoretical and practical aspects,mainly discussing how to help teachers better understand students' behavior and how to exert a positive effect on them so as to build a harmonious and healthy learning environment.The excerpts of the translation(chapter one and chapter two)mainly describe why understanding students' behavior matters and how psychology can help teachers' understanding.The original text belongs to educational text,the language style of which is objective.And the difficult points of this translation lie in two aspects: how to translate those ambiguous words and phrases,and how to deal with those long and difficult sentences.Based on the text analysis theory proposed by Peter Newmark,the translator adopts communicative translation as the guiding theory so as to render an accurate translation.To solve the difficulties the translator has encountered,she also combines specific translation methods together,such as conversion,division,inversion and so on.Through the whole translation practice,the translator draws the following conclusions.First and foremost,when translating terminologies,the translator should make full use of various professional dictionaries.As the original text is an educational text,the translator should give top priority to the dictionary of pedagogy and the dictionary of psychology.In addition,translation theory should be selected according to the type of original text.As the original text is an informative text,the translator chooses CT method as the guidance in terms of text analysis theory.Besides,different translation methods have to be adopted to solve the difficulties in the process,so as to accurately convey the meaning of the original text.
