As a pillar of interpreting study,the Interpretive Theory divides interpreting activities into three stages: comprehension,de-verbalization and reformulation.In this report,the author will discuss main challenges met by interpreters in conference interpreting especially in whispered interpreting and available strategies based on the Interpretive Theory and according to the author's whispered interpreting practice at a conference.The main challenges in the task can be discussed from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory and whispered interpreting.From the perspective of the Interpretive Theory,linguistic and cognitive knowledge should be combined together so that sense can form.Linguistic knowledge refers to language ability while cognitive knowledge involves interpreters' experiences.In addition to that,de-verbalization is a major challenge for interpreters like the author.How to input de-verbalized information and produce standard target language will reflect the interpreter's understanding of the speaker's intention.From the perspective of whispered interpreting,challenges including noise that affects the information received and attention allocation and communicative context that reflects the characteristics of the conference and speeches.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,the author finds out that the available strategies are conversion,supplementation and generalization.In the last chapter,feedback from the listener,findings and limitations of this research.It is the author's hope that this report can be helpful and inspiring for similar interpreting tasks.
