With the development of informatization and globalization, the economic, cultural, and social exchanges have become increasingly frequent among different countries. Conference interpreting plays a significant role in foreign affairs. The press conference hosted during the sessions of annual "NPC and CPPCC" gets a widespread concern in the world, and the interpretation is widely studied. The Interpretive Theory, proposed by Danica Seleskovitch and M Lederer in the late 1960s in France, is the first kind of systematic interpreting theory in the international interpretation circle. The theory regards sense as the interpreting target, and it consists of three core concepts, that is, comprehension, deverbalization, and re-expression. The interpretive holds that there are three levels of interpreting, namely, lexical level, sentence level and discourse level. The third level is what the Interpretive Theory considers as interpreting in real sense, namely, interpretive interpreting. The author selected the material of the press conference by five deputies of the National People’s Congress on perfecting the higher education reform in China to make the simulated consecutive interpreting, under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory. The report consists of five chapters. Chapter one, task description, demonstrated the background information of the task and stylistic features of the speeches. Chapter two, procedures of the simulated interpreting, covers the whole procedure of the practice, containing the pre-preparation, the process and post-work of the simulated interpreting. Chapter three, the conference interpreting and the Interpretive Theory, introduces the definition and standard of interpreting and conference interpreting, the key concepts of the Interpretive Theory and its triangle model. Chapter four, the main part, illustrates how does the author use different strategies, under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, to tackle the difficulties including long sentence interpreting, word with Chinese characteristics, illogical sentence interpreting and incomplete note-taking. In chapter five, the author made a review and reflection of the practice, affirmed the operability of the Interpretive Theory in interpreting, and concluded the good points and the aspects to be improved, hoping to help enrich the theme of interpreting for the press conference, to spread the concept of Chinese education reform as well as to offer reference to future study of herself and other learners.
