| Nowadays whispered interpreting has taken a greater part among foreign exchanges in modern society with its impacts constantly broadening and deepening.The exchanges between countries are getting more frequent which involve culture,economy and other fields.Whispered interpreting is a branch of simultaneous interpreting and has been widely used in private interview,small conference and business negotiation.Unlike conference interpreting,whispered interpreting is simple and less formal.This report is based on the author’s experience as a whispered interpreter in Chinese class for a Nigerian student.In this report,the author wants to prove if interpretive interpreting can be better accepted by listeners than the word by word interpretation in this interpreting practice.However,most studies of interpretive theory are more concentrated on conference interpreting and the author tried to apply it to whispered interpreting in this report.The author gives a specific description of the interpreting process,including the pre-task preparation,the on-site interpreting,and difficulties encountered as well as the tactics applied to tackle those difficulties.Case analysis,which is based on the transcript of this author’s whispered interpreting,is the major part of this report.In the case analysis,he listed some major difficulties and challenges when fulfilling this whispered interpreting task.Meanwhile,the difficulties and challenges of this interpreting practice were also given,such as information missing,the challenges in listening comprehension in noise and long sentence processing.Inspired by interpretive theory,measures based on deverbalization like information restructuring,omitting redundant information and generalizing core information were taken by the author.At the end of this report,the author shares the major findings and limitations of this report which can offer suggestions on the practice in whispered interpreting. |
