A Project Report On E-C Translation Of The Age Of Sustainable Development

This is a translation project report on The Age of Sustanable Development,a masterwork of the famous American economist Jeffery D.Sachs.It describes the status quo of global development and puts forward some suggestions to the problems.The project report is based on the second chapter of The Age of Sustainable Development.Firstly,the report analyzes the text type theory,according to which the text belongs to the informative text.Its language is more accurate and objective,the expression is logical and professional.Guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory,we need to pay more attention to restoring the information conveyed by the original text to achieve a more faithful translation.Secondly,the case analysis in this report demonstrates the problems existing in the translation process from three basic aspects:lexical level,syntactical level and discourse level,including polysemy,nominalization,terms,passive and long sentences.And the translator puts forward corresponding translation strategies in view of these problems,including the conversion of part of speech and sentence pattern,amplification and annotation method.At the same time,we should also pay attention to the general grasp of the discourse.On the basis of the translation practice,the translator summarizes the lessons and inspiration from this project.The E-C translation of the academic text not only requires the conversion between the two languages,but also involves the knowledge in many fields.We need to know more about other subjects and improve our translation skills so that we can combine theory with practice and enhance our own quality.
