| Parallel texts refer to texts that derive from different language environments but share the same text type and function.It has been applied in university interpreting training since the 1950 s,and was gradually employed in Applied Translation in the late 1980 s.Software Training Manual translation,which serves as an important component of Applied Translation,was the product of technological globalization in 21 century.Before completing translation work via computer,translators have to systematically acquire the knowledge of Software Training Manual so as to operate ―translation software‖,which is known as Computer-Assisted Translation.Therefore,the application of parallel texts is of great significance.Under the guidance of the Parallel Text,this report aims to analyze the process of translation practice by taking Wordfast Training Guide as the source text and several Chinese software operating manuals as parallel texts.The report also elaborates on the translation process from the beginning to the end and then,through systematic analysis of samples from the perspectives of vocabulary,sentences and text,it explores how to offer practical solutions to the challenges encountered in translation of untranslatable vocabulary,terminology,imperative sentences,passive sentences,long sentences as well as textual structure and style,in the hoping of satisfying the target readers’ requirement.This report finally arrives at the conclusion as follows: firstly,effective application of parallel texts can improve translation efficiency.Parallel text reading enables the author to accumulate terminology and deepen the comprehension of the source text,avoiding frequent consultation of correspond information.Secondly,translation quality could be greatly improved for parallel texts serve as an ambiguity eraser,sentence pattern regulator and textual style compensator.Thirdly,guided by Parallel Text,the dominant translation strategies include imitation,borrowing,subject ellipsis,conversion and zero translation.In addition,for the sake of generating authentic and acceptable translation work,the translator should take the relevance and authority of parallel texts into consideration. |
