In April,2014,1 took part in an English-Chinese translation project from a translation company. The project was the translation of Universal Studios Singapore Entry Operations Training Manual. I translated the first eight parts and this report is based on the translation practice. My translation practice is guided by the Skopos Theory, which was put forward by German linguist Hans Vermeer in 1970s. The Skopos theory focuses on translation as an activity with a purpose at the core. In the translation, the three rules of the theory are applied to the solution to the problems and difficulties, and in this report, many examples from the translation practice are analyzed. As a conclusion, the Skopos Theory can be applied to the translation of practical texts of this kind. |
