Research On Prevention And Control Of Schistosomiasis In Guichi County(1950-1965)

Schistosomiasis is mainly prevalent in the Yangtze River Basin and its south areas in China.Guichi County is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.The geographical environment and climatic characteristics are particularly suitable for the growth and reproduction of schistosomiasis,which has become one of the top ten major schistosomiasis epidemic areas in the country.In the old China,where schistosomiasis was seriously afflicted,the physical and mental health and production and life of the people in the karst areas have been seriously hampered,which has greatly hindered the development of the local economy and society.After the founding of New China,in order to protect people's lives and quickly restore the economics of the affected areas,Guichi County,in accordance with the unified arrangements of the central and provincial committees,set up a blood-defense leadership organization and professional prevention and control institutions in a timely manner,investing human,financial and material resources and actively taking action.Seriously carry out all work of blood defense.First,strengthen the publicity and education of blood-defense policies and blood-defense knowledge,guide the masses to enhance health awareness,change bad habits,and consciously devote themselves to the fight against schistosomiasis;second,adopt comprehensive prevention and control such as"inspection,treatment,elimination,management,prevention,Measures,go hand in hand,and carry out large-scale mass schistosomiasis movements in conjunction with the basic construction of farmland water conservancy.From 1950 to 1965,after 16 years of hard work and unremitting exploration,Guichi County's blood defense has achieved remarkable results.The area of snails has shrunk,and most patients have received effective treatment.The society in the affected areas has revived,showing a thriving scene.However,due to various subjective and objective factors,this period has also gone through some detours,and there have been many twists and turns and even mistakes.In general,the blood-protection of Guichi in 1950-1965 experienced a tortuous process from rising,climax to low tide and recovery.Rethinking and summarizing its experience and lessons has important reference significance for the current public health and disease prevention and control work.At the same time,in the repeated struggle between groups and diseases,there are rich social and cultural elements.Guichi blood defense is a microcosm of national blood defense,reflecting the national spirit of becoming more and more brave and self-improving.
