The Research Orn The Prevention Of Schistosomiasis In Zhejiang Province(1949-1958)

The mass campaign for control and prevention of Schistosomiasis was carried out nationwide after the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949.As a serious epidemic area,Zhejiang province organized the control and prevention work in a deepening process.At the beginning of its development,there were many problems made the control and prevention work encounter some resistance.On the one hand,schistosomiasis as a local disease,a diverse natural environment and complex human social activities can all lead to the expansion of its area of infection,especially at the time when the medical level was low and there was no relevant epidemic prevention experience,effective control of the spread of schistosomiasis could not be achieved.On the other hand,due to the local people didn't realize the harm of the disease,there was a series of problems in the process,such as the collision between science and superstition,the contradiction between production and prevention and the conflict between the prevention measure and public sanitary idea,which caused tensions between the prevention officers and the local people.With the establishment of leadership system and the enhancement of political,the prevention work became increasingly smooth.In the practice,Zhejiang province started from establishing pilot area,and then gradually accumulated experience,finally reached a climax of mass campaign for the prevention work in 1958.Relying on the development of the schistosomiasis movement,it gradually developed the epidemic prevention work into a routine work for all people to participate in.Not only successfully promoted the establishment of modern public health system,but also integrated social resources,and achieved the governance of the country to the grass-roots society.In terms of social mobilization,the use of power techniques such as "complaint" had not only effectively mobilized the masses to participate in the schistosomiasis movement,but had also become a powerful political means to guide the people to increase their acceptance of the new regime.With the rectification of the production and living environment in the epidemic areas,the people had personally experienced the unprecedented results of the schistosomiasis prevention work,further strengthened their knowledge,cooperation and participation in schistosomiasis prevention work,and also deepened their recognition,trust and support for the new regime.
