| The natural environment in Yugan County,such as well-developed river networks,warm and humid climate,numerous wetlands with pervasive oncomelania snails,as well as the water supply of production and daily life,has created the favorable conditions for schistosomiasis epidemic.People in Yugan County first became infected with schistosomiasis in the early Ming Dynasty.It grew into an epidemic in Xian Feng reign of Qing Dynasty and seriously exacerbated from the Republic of China to the establishment of the People Republic of China,which caused severe damage to social and economic development.After the foundation of the new China,under the guidance of the Communist Party and the government,schistosomiasis control institutions with professional staffs were built and the funding of schistosomiasis control was raised to actively launch schistosomiasis control in Yugan County.By 2014,the schistosomiasis control in Yugan County mainly implemented the following three stages: “focus on the elimination of oncomelania snails”,“focus on the synchronous chemotherapy of patients and livestocks” and “focus on the infection source control”,which reflected people’s better understanding of the schistosomiasis control and the developing disease control technologies with a more and more scientific control strategy of schistosomiasis epidemic.Although,the schistosomiasis control in Yugan County has achieved great progress and accumulated abundant experience,schistosomiasis is still not eradicated and plenty of unsatisfactory problems exist.There is still a long way to control schistosomiasis in the future. |
