| ObjectiveTo develop a research tool for the elderly care capacity in emergency department;To investigate the status quo and analyze the influence factors of emergency nurses’ capacity for care of the elderly.Method1.Literature review and qualitative interview were used to construct the questionnaire entry pool of nursing ability for the elderly in emergency nurses,emergency nurse,elderly emergency patients and their families,nursing experts were interviewed.Using the Delphi method,19 nurse experts were selected with two rounds of experts interview.The questionnaire entry was scored from 1 to 5,ranked by Lirkert 5,forming a pre-test scale for elderly care ability of emergency nurses.Pre-test were performed on 32 emergency nurses to evaluate the reliability of the questionnaire.320 emergency nurses were surveyed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the scale to form the final questionnaire.2.With random group sampling method,336 emergency nurses of Henan Zhengzhou were investigated using the Questionnaire on Emergency Nurses’ Capacity for Care of the Elderly,Kogan’s Attitudes toward Old People Scale(KAOP),Palmore’s Facts on Aging Quiz 1(FAQ1),exploring the influence factors of emergency murses’ capacity for care of the elderly.3.IBM SPSS 21.0 statistical software was used to entry analyze data.CVI was used to evaluate the content validity of the questionnaire,Cronbach’s αwas used to evaluate the internal consistency reliability.The questionnaire test-retest reliability was measured by r value.and P value.The mean and standard deviation was used to describe the counting data,the frequency and composition ratio were used to describe the classification variable data.Two independent sample T test and Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the relevance of the elderly attitude,aging knowledge,and elderly nursing ability questionnaire of emergency nurses.Multiple linear regression is used to explore the relevent factors affecting the nurses’ capacity for care of the elderly.In this study,the difference of P<0.05 was statistically significant.Results1.Questionnaire on Emergency Nurses’ Capacity for Care of the Elderly were developed with 5 dimensions and 28 entries,consist of emergency response(7 entries),condition assessment(7 entries),effective communication skills(6 entries),resource integration(5 entries)and self-protection capability(3 entries).The Cronbach’s αof the questionnaire was 0.903,and 5 dimensions Cronbach’s αbetween 0.792 and 0.895,The content validity of the questionnaire is 0.82 and test-retest reliability is 0.811.The r value of all subscales were>0.7(P<0.001),which shows good validity and reliability of the questionnaire.2.The average age of 336 emergency nurses was 25.51±4.69 years old.The score of Questionnaire on Emergency Nurses’ Capacity for Care of the Elderly is 87.21±25.70 points.The overall average value of the Kogan’s Attitudes toward Old People Scale(KOAP)was 158.03±24.64 points.The score of Palmore’s Facts on Aging Quiz 1(FAQ1)was 16.42±5.77 points.The elderly attitude of emergency nurses is positively related to their aging knowledge,and the elderly attitude is positively related to their nursing ability.Among them,the dimensions of condition assessment ability,effective communication ability,and resource integration ability in the Questionnaire on Emergency Nurses’ Capacity for Care of the Elderly are positively related to their elderly attitudes.There is no significant correlation between emergency treatment ability and self-protection ability and the attitudes of the elderly.The results of the multiple linear regression analysis show that the length of work,the attitude of the elderly,the knowledge of ageing,the availability of elderly care courses,and whether to live with the elderly are the factors that affect the nursing ability of emergency nurses on elderly.Conclusion1.The Questionnaire on Emergency Nurses’ Capacity for Care of the Elderly has good reliability and validity,and can be used to evaluate the nursing ability for elderly in emergency department.2.The level of nursing ability of emergency nurses is low.Emergency nurses have a positive attitude towards the elderly.The level of aging knowledge of emergency nurses is medium.3.The length of work,the attitude of the elderly,the knowledge of ageing,the availability of elderly care courses,and whether to live with the elderly are the factors that affect the nursing ability of emergency nurses on elderly.Nursing managers can improve the nursing ability of emergency nurses in the emergency department by improving the attitude of emergency nurses to the elderly and increasing training to improve their aging knowledge. |
