Objective: According to the standard of norm-referenced test, by evaluating the item difficulty, discrimination and other indexes of paper-and-pencil test of emergency nursing from grade 2004 to grade 2005 of 3 institutions in Shanxi Province, proposition and possible drawbacks of education would be found accordingly, and thus relevant reasons and resolutions would be proposed. Methods: A descriptive research together with an accidental sampling is applied to the study. The six papers of undergraduates' emergency nursing are used as subjects which are from grade 2004 to grade 2005 of 3 institutions, including 39 of grade 2004 in College A, 52 of grade 2005 in College A, 45 of grade 2004 in College B, 56 of grade 2004 in College B, 35 of grade 2004 in College C, 48 of grade 2005 in College C. Suspended test papers, make-up test papers and the answer sheets are not included. Mean, SD, normal-distribution test, content validity , Cronbach' a t item difficulty, item discrimination of all the subjects are estimated and evaluated to find out whether they are reasonable or not. Kruscal-Wallis test is used for comparing mistake ratio of different levels. Rank sum ratio is used for comparing mistake ratio of different parts. x2 test is used for comparing quality of subjective and objective test items. According to the standard of norm- referenced test, item with discrimination less than 0.2 is unqualified. 25 percent unqualified items are not good for a qualified test. If the reliability less than 0.6 or content validity less than 0.4, it is not satisfactory. SPSS software is used for calculating during the study. Results: The reliability of grade 2004 in College B is below, and nearly 15 percent items are with problems. Due to the lower score in some parts educator should adjust that. No significant rules are found from the students' answers. However, due to the limited amount of items involved in the research, the similar corrective ratio in these two parts do not necessarily mean that the students have already met the requirement of a high level of undergraduate nursing education. The mean scores of grade 2005 in College A are below 70, and are significantly lower than those of other grades (P<0.05). The item difficulty of English items is below the average of the whole test. Evaluation of nursing education is not very precise. Because of the drawbacks of Classic Test Theory. Conclusions: Although the quality of the whale six papers is satisfactory, the ratio of some items with low difficulty or discrimination less than 0.2 is not insignificant, educators need adjust those yet; Educators are short of examination theory and Broom's Taxonomy; With present data, it is not confirmed that students have the capacity of problem-solving and creativity; With the low mark of English items, the instructional effect is not ideal. The teaching-and-learning English for nursing specially requires the improvement.
