ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to explore the influence of tracking oral health education based on caregivers on oral hygiene status, oral health knowledge and oral health behavior of children in the mixed-dentition period. In addition,we also want to explore a suitable method of oral health education for children in the stage of mixed dentition, and to provide the basis for oral health education in children with mixed dentition.MethodsWe had drawn two classes of a total of 90 children from grade one in a primary school in Wuhan with using convenience sampling method. The 90 children were divided into test group and control group randomly, each group has 45 children.According to the principle of voluntary participation, from April 2015 to October2016,the children in the test group were given the tracking oral health education based on caregivers, while the control group was given routine oral health education. The data was collected before and after intervention for 1 months.ResultsWe had collected data from the people who had participated in the whole research, and then the statistical analysis was carried out on the data. Finally, there are42 children in the test group participate in the whole research while 3 children dropped out. There are 44 children in the control group participate in the whole research finally while 1 child dropped out.1.Oral examination results. The child's oral hygiene index-simplified in the test group was significantly lower than those in the control group and baseline data. And the differences were statistically significant(P?0.01).In the control group, there was no statistically difference at the child's oral hygiene index-simplified before and after intervention(P?0.05).2.The result of child's questionnaire.Oral health knowledge: After the intervention, the six oral health knowledge items which are oral health can affect overall health, pit and fissure sealant can prevent caries of first permanent molar, the bad primary teeth should be treat timely, gingivitis can lead to bleeding, rinse mouth after eating and children should use fluoride toothpaste, were statistically differences between the test group and the control group in the correct response rate(P?0.05).The test group compare with the baseline,in addition to the above 6 items had significant differences(P?0.05),the correct response rate of the item "keep the mouth clean can prevent dental caries and gingivitis" was higher than that of the baseline data and the difference was statistically significant(P?0.05).Oral health behavior: There were statistically differences between the test group and the control group at eating snacks, brushing methods and brushing time(P?0.05),the same result to compare with baseline data(P?0.05).3.The results of caregiver's questionnaire.Demographic data: There was no statistically difference between the test group and the control group(P?0.05).Oral health knowledge: After the intervention, the three items which are the use of fluoride toothpaste is good for teeth, dental caries is a bacterial disease and the bad primary teeth should be treat timely, were statistically differences between the test group and the control group in the correct response rate(P?0.05),the same result to compare with baseline data(P?0.05).Caregiver's oral health behavior: After the intervention, there were statistically differences between the test group and the control group at brushing method, brushing time and oral health check frequency(P?0.05).There were statistically differences in the test group before and after intervention at brushing method, brushing time, period of changing toothbrush and oral health check frequency(P?0.05).The attitude to child's oral health: After the intervention, there were no statistically differences between the test group and the control group at child's toothache, brushing mouth after eating, the frequency of eating fresh fruit and eating sweets(P?0.05).While other items had statistically differences between the test group and the control group(P?0.05).About the test group, there were no statistically differences before and after intervention at child's toothache, sharing oral hygieneknowledge with children, the frequency of eating fresh fruit(P?0.05),While other items had statistically differences before and after intervention(P?0.05).Conclusions1.The tracking oral health education based on caregivers has a positive influence on the oral health of mixed dentition children. It can improve the oral health knowledge and oral health behaviors of caregivers and children effective,it also can improve the enthusiasm of the caregivers to pay attention to children' s oral health,so as to improve the oral in daily life.It has a positive effect on keeping the mouth clean for the mixed dentition children.3.The tracking oral health education based on caregivers can provide oral health knowledge from the society, school and family, make the knowledge into belief and then change the behaviors,so that the children can stick with good oral hygiene and improve the oral health behavior. It is good for their
