Etiology And Treatment Of Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders In Oral Mucosa Discipline

Although modern technologies, methods, and drugs have been developed to promote the level of diagnosis and therapy of OLP(oral lichen planus) and OLK(oral leukoplakia), the etiology and treatment output are not certain. In addition, for the fearfulness of cancerization, these oral potential malignant disorders(OPMDs) are getting more complex to address. The author collected patients with OLP or OLK from the affiliated stomatology hospital of Zhejiang University during 2013-2015 on whom Professor Hong He’s new opinion and strategy were performed and shown here with cases presentation to strengthen the importance of oral hygiene and oral health. At the same time, the author also introduces and thinks over about the present situation about oral mucosa discipline including education, research, and clinical conditions.Part I Current situation of the oral mucosa disciplineObjectiveTo review the development history and analyze the current situation of the mucosa medicine. And to understand the present education model and scale, as well as new challenge.MethodWith the assistance of CNKI and PUBMED databases, the relevant informations about the education and scholar levels of the oral mucosa were collected from 6 schools of medicine of universities.ResultLBL (Lecture-based Learning), PBL (Problem-based Learning), CBL (Case-based Learning) and the combined methods were the primary model in education with their respective strengths and weaknesses. In addition, various social aspects make students feel difficult to practice clinical training. Oral mucosal science discipline is under unbalance conditions.ConclusionThe traditional model teacher-based way has been transferred to student-based way. And the PBL-CBL combined method has shown its advantage and benefit. Still more advanced performances are hopeful to be innovated. Government’s new polices are wished to be raised to reform situations for oral health and oral mucosal medicine.Part II New opinions about the etiology and treatment strategies for OPMDsObjectiveTo introduce the OPMDs’etiologic sequences, and to press on the importance of oral hygiene and oral health.MethodThe 301 cases of most geologically different sources were collected from the affiliated stomatology hospital of Zhejiang University during 2013-2015 to study the clinical features with cases report.ResultAn increasing trend about OLP development among young people was found. Heterotopic cancerization can also be found in patients with OLP. The distribution of gender and age were similar with literatures and other reports. The oral hygiene and oral health problems in Chinese people were prominent. Treatment effects were above 90% of effectiveness rate, including 75% of obvious success under our opinion and strategies on etiologic and therapeutic sequence.ConclusionProfessor He’s new opinions about etiologic sequence and comprehensively sequential treatment are effective strategies for OPMDs solution. And oral health as well as oral hygiene is at a high attention to be paid.
