Objective : To investigate the relationship between serum level of cytokine-23(interleukin,IL-23)and familial aggregation of hepatocelluar carcinoma(HCC).Methods: With the living environment, gender, nationality,HBV carrying status and age 5 years as the matching condition,103 pairs of the carcinoma-free members from HCC high incidence families and those from carcinoma-free families were selected in the high incidence area of liver cancer in Guangxi, then use enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(enzyme linked immunosorbent assay,ELISA)to detect serum IL-23 in two groups of 206 cases of members. Results:On the whole, the expression level of IL-23 in HCC family group was higher than that in non cancer family group(Z =-2.363,P =0.018);Hierarchical comparison, with the female members,HBsAg positive members, aged 25 years or younger members and members of Zhuang nationality was more significant(all P < 0.05);In addition,in the family of high incidence of HCC,the expression level of IL-23 in the three and above relatives was significantly higher than that of first-degree relatives, and there was significant statistical difference(Z =-2.672,P = 0.008);With the increase of thenumber of HCC cases in the family group with high incidence of HCC,the expression level of IL-23 was not statistically significant(Z =-1.071,P =0.284).Conclusion: There is some correlation between the expression level of interleukin 23 and familial aggregation of hepatocelluar carcinoma(HCC).
