Objective: To compare and analyze the expression levels of interleukin(IL)-13 in the serum of the family members with a high incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and those of cancer-free family members in Guangxi and to explore the relation between the expression level of IL-13 and family clustering of HCC in Guangxi. Methods: A total of 93 cases from 24 families with a high incidence of HCC in Guangxi were enrolled in research group, which included 58 male cases and 35 female cases that aged(31.15±17.779)years old.A total of 93cancer-free members in the same villages with the same gender, same nationality, same expression of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg)and aged ±5years old were included in control group, including 58 male cases and 35 female cases that aged(30.85±17.599)years old.According to the number of probands in the families with a high incidence of HCC,they were divided into group A(2~3 probands)and group B(4 probands or above).According to the level of relatives, high incidence family members are divided into first-degree relatives group,second-degree relatives group,third-degree relatives and abovegroup.Enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay(ELISA)was performed to detect the expression levels of IL-13 in the peripheral blood of all research objects. Results: The expression levels of serum IL-13 in research group and control group were 51.2400(45.0400,56.9550)ng/L and 54.2200(43.2450,59.5450)ng/L,respectively and the difference was not statistically significant(Z=-0.747,P=0.455).Statistical analysis by gender :The expression levels of male serum IL-13 in research group and control group were 49.9700(44.2125,56.5675)ng/L and 53.6500(43.3075,60.3975)ng/L,respectively and the difference was not statistically significant(Z=-0.782,P=0.434).The expression levels of female serum IL-13 in research group and control group were 51.5100(45.7800,57.5500)ng/L and 54.8500(42.8300,59.3700)ng/L,respectively and the difference was not statistically significant(Z=-0.172,P=0.863).The expression levels of the serum IL-13 of members with positive HBsAg in research group and control group were 54.4350(50.1850,62.2975)ng/L and50.0850(40.1600,58.2725)ng/L,respectively.The expression level was significantly higher in research group than that in control group and the difference had statistical significance(Z=-2.203,P=0.028).The expression levels of the serum IL-13 of members with negative HBsAg in research group and control group were 49.5300(44.2050,56.3500)ng/L and 54.8500(44.4550,61.4500)ng/L,respectively and the difference was not statistically significant(Z=-1.836,P=0.066).The expression levels of the serum IL-13 of members from the Yao nationality in research group and control group were 51.6600(46.0600,56.9550)ng/L,54.6000(42.1400,59.1600)ng/L,respectively and the difference was not statistically significant(Z=-0.76,P=0.940).The expression levels of the serum IL-13 of members from the Zhuang nationality in research group and control group were 50.6050(44.6175,57.4900)ng/L and 54.1000(43.5700,60.0375)ng/L,respectively and the difference was not statistically significant(Z=-0.873,P=0.383).(2)The expression level of the serum IL-13 of members with positive HBsAg in research group was significantly higher than that of the members with negative HBsAg and the difference had statistical significance(Z=-2.132,P=0.033).(3)The expression levels of the serum IL-13 of group A and group B in research group were compared and the difference had no statistical significance(Z=-0.532,P=0.595).(4)The expression levels of the serum IL-13 of first-degree relatives group were 49.8800(43.7900,55.5600)ng/L,second-degree relatives group were 48.8600(45.0000,56.8900)ng/L,third-degree relatives and above group were 54.3200(45.8550,59.6750)ng/L.There was no significant difference between the groups(Z=2.574,P=0.276).Conclusion:(1)There may be no direct correlation between the expression level of serum IL-13 and family clustering of HCC.(2)There may be a correlation between the expression level of serum IL-13 and family clustering of HCC related with HBV infection.
