Objective To study the relationship between gingival blood glucose level and finger peripheral blood glucose levels through the clinical study of gingival bleeding in elderly patients with periodontal disease, and to evaluate the feasibility of the application of gingival blood glucose in the screening of diabetes mellitus. At the same time, the oral health related quality of life of the elderly was evaluated through questionnaires. Methods Collected in the Qingdao Shibei District Jimo Road office market, the residents living in the second road community,60-76 years old, conscious, able to communicate in normal communication, suffering from moderate or severe periodontal disease of the crowd, the oral examination and simultaneously collect gingival blood(GCB)and finger End Blood(FSB),The use of blood glucose meter for reading, recording, statistics, consistency test, and fill in the Oral health status questionnaire. Results In this study,120 subjects were involved in clinical study, and the blood glucose value of gingival blood(GCB)was 4.7~16.6mmol/L,average(7.67±3.42)mmol/L in all subjects, and the blood glucose of peripheral blood(FSB)was 4.9~16.9mmol/L in all subjects,average(7.84±3.56)mmol/L.Paired T Test analyzed the difference of blood glucose value between gingival and t=-1.612,p=0.114,suggesting that there was no significant difference between them;Pearson correlation coefficient analysis The correlation of gingival blood(GCB)and finger peripheral blood(FSB)blood glucose value,r= 0.991,P<0.001,suggesting that the two are highly correlated.A total of 387 effective questionnaires were collected in this study, and the total average score of the elderly OHIP-14 was 14.53±10.13.Conclusions Gingival Blood(GCB)may be a potential and excellent source of blood sugar for screening people with known and unknown histories of diabetes during oral examinations and regular periodontal treatment.Oral health related quality of life in the elderly is generally poor. The elderly have a high risk of diabetes, early detection can avoid many complications, improve the quality of life and survival of the elderly.
