0bjectives To translate the English version of the Child-OIDP and CPQ11-14 into Chinese version and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese versions for use among 10-14 years children in Urumqi, to compare the psychometric properties of two scale. Methods After translation, back translation and cultural adaptation, the two scales were tested on 461 10-14 years children in Urumqi. A clinical examination was conducted followed by the questionnaire. The children completed the Child-OIDP in face-to-face interviews, and completed the CPQ11-14 in questionnaires. Result An oral impact on daily life was reported by 33.9% of the 10-12 years children in Urumqi. The mean Child-OIDP score was 2.16[standard deviation (SD) 8.22]. The internal reliability was confirmed with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.57. The retest procedure showed a satisfactory reproducibility, CCIs was0.721,P<0.0001. Construct validity was satisfactory as the Child-OIDP score increased when the children's perceived oral health decreased. All inter-item correlations were positive and no correlation was high enough for any item to be redundant. Cronbach's alpha of CPQ11-14 was 0.78, corrected item-total correlation ranged from 0.026-0.610, intracalss corelation coefficients (ICCs) for CPQ11-14 was 0.75, The 16 items were divided into four domains. There was certain logical among the items in the same domain. To compare the scores of two scales in 270 10-12 years children, the mean Child-OIDP score was lower than CPQ11-14, CPQ11-14 was better in validity and reliability, the CHILD-OIDP has the advantage over the CPQ11-14 in that it specifies the different clinical causes of each oral impact and therefore the treatments needed. Conclusion This study showed that the Chinese version Child-OIDP and CPQ11-14 was a valid and reliable index to be used among 10–14 year old schoolchildren in Urumqi.
