Since China’s policy of reform and opening-up,the living standards of residents have increased significantly, and the demand for medical and health services has also increased. However, the supply of medical resources has been severely inadequate.Public medical institutions and private medical institutions have their own flaws. The problem of “difficult to see a doctor” and “expensive to see a doctor” remains. On the one hand, public hospitals occupy a major position in the medical industry, while the number of patients they can bear is limited, and their development is uneven especially in developed regions. On the other hand, the private medical industry is greatly affected by the administrative control, financial allocation, and independent pricing. With the limitations of the medical industry and the high barriers to its entry, the private medical industry has been undergoing difficult progress. Therefore, this article starts with the international comparison of the private medical industry’s development patterns, and tries to offer recommendations for the future development of this industry in China. This paper uses the nature of the private medical industry, the factors influencing the choice of development patterns, the theory of diamond model and some other theories,as well as the methods to analyze and compare the different development patterns of the private medical industry in different systems. The paper is mainly divided into four parts, the developed countries with public medicine as the mainstay, with the United Kingdom as an example;developed countries with private medical care as the mainstay, taking the United States as an example;developing countries with public medical care as the mainstay,China as an example;private medical services as the mainstay; The main developing country takes India as an example.According to the classification of the private medical industry, including different development models such as community hospitals,high-end medical care, and multiple hybrids, this paper uses the diamond models and the macro-factors frameworks to analyze the conditions for the formation of different private medical industry patterns, and compares those patterns at home and abroad. The key issue to be solved in this paper is finding out the problems in the development of Chinese private medical institutions through the above-mentioned research, future development prospects prediction, and innovative suggestions for the future choice-making among modes of development of private medical institutions in this country.
