Objective: The objective of this study was to observe the clinical effects of new Bobath technique combined with acupuncture(Wang's hands and feet 12 needles)and acupuncture(Wang's hands and feet 12 needles)in treating upper limb spasticity after stroke, respectively. To observe the advantage of the combination of new Bobath technique combined with acupuncture and to provide an effective treatment plan in treating this kind of disease,we used several scales to evaluate the effects.Metholds: Total of 60 patients from the outpatient and ward of acupuncture and rehabilitation department of this hospital were selected in this study. Then we analysed the 60 patients with upper limb spasticity after stroke. They were randomly divided into two groups: the control group and the treatment group, each with 30 patients. The patients in the control group were treated with acupuncture(Wang's hands and feet 12needles),and the patients in the treatment group were treated with new Bobath technique combined with acupuncture(Wang's hands and feet 12needles).The acupuncture prescription of the control group was needling double acupoints of Quchi,Neiguan,Hegu,Yanglingquan,Zusanli and Sanyinjiao.Adding and subtracting acupoints according to thesimultaneous phenomenon. If the patient had dizz, the patient was pricked additional acupoints of Banhui and Fengfu.Acupuncture manipulation:the patients in the control group were adopted supine position and then sterilized routinely. The acupuncturist used the disposable acupuncture needles to prick the healthy limb and then the spastic limb, with the twirling, lifting and thrusting methods. The needles were stayed for 30 minutes after getting need sensation, once a day, five times a week. The patients in the treatment group were trained with the new Bobath technique on the basis of the control group. The treatment plan included the upper limb antispasmodic position and passive movement. Each rehabilitation training session was 45 minutes, once a day, five times a week. The continuous treatment time was 4 weeks. To observe the difference of therapeutic effect between two groups after treatment, both groups were evaluated by several scales, such as modified Ashworth scale(MAS),simpling Fugl-Meyer assessment(FMA)and Barthel index(BI),on the basis of neurologic conventional medicine and physical therapy.SPSS 20.0 was used for statistical analysis.Results:1.According to the modified Ashworth spasm evaluation form, the difference in muscle tension between the two groups was statistically significant(P=0.017<0.05).2.According to the simpling Fugl-Meyer assessment, there wassignificant difference in FMA score before and after treatment in the two groups(P < 0.05),and the difference was also statistically significant between the two groups(P < 0.05).3.According to the Barthel index rating daily life ability, there was significant difference in BI score before and after treatment in the two groups(P < 0.05),and the difference was also statistically significant between the two groups(P < 0.05).4.The overall efficacy of the treatment group was better than that of the control group. Conclusions: The new Bobath technique combined with acupuncture is more effective in reducing the muscle tension of upper limb spasticity after stroke than single acupuncture under the same other treatment conditions. The new Bobath technique combined with acupuncture can effectively promote the recovery of upper limb spasticity after stroke, and improve the ability of stroke patients daily life more effectively.
