Canine Babesiasis is a blood-borne protozoal disease that uses ticks as a vector.In addition to spreading through ticks biting,it can also be transmitted through blood transfusions,placentas,and dogs taken along babesia fighting.The main clinical manifestations are anemia,jaundice,hemoglobinuria and fever,and secondary liver and kidney disease,splenomegaly even death in severe cases.In recent years,this disease has an outbreaking and epidemic trend in Xi'an.Because it is with a long treatment cycle,easy to relapse,costly,and has the risk of death,this disease brings a lot of obsessions to pet owners.This article investigated the pathogenic,clinical symptoms,epidemiology,diagnosis,treatment and prevention of Canine Babesiasis in Xi'an which would provide references for the research of clinical Canine Babesia.Eighty-three dog cases infected Canine Babesiasis which were collected in the Pet Hospital of Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University in Xi'an from January to December of 2015 were analyzed in this paper.Epidemiological survey showed that the onset of this disease was from April to December of the same year.High incidence periods were 9-10 months and the cases during this period accounted for 60.2%(50/83)of the whole year.The high incidence ages were 1-5 years old,and the cases of this age group accounted for 67% of all cases.The occurrence of this disease had nothing to do with varieties and genders.Eighty-three Canine Babesiasis cases were all Canine Babesia Gibsoni.The definite diagnosis of this disease was made mainly through examining blood smears to find Canine Babesia Gibsoni parasites within the red blood cells.The treatment principles of this disease were drug insecticide,symptomatic treatment and nutritional support therapy,and blood transfusion was needed firstly for the severe anemia.There are 56 cases had complete treatment records among 83 first diagnosis cases,among which the cure rate was 91%(51/56)and the mortality rate was 9%(5/56),as well as the recurrence rate was 25%(14/56).The recurrence appeared generally within 1 to 2 months after the first cure and some dogs recurred in the next year.In summary,the pathogen of Canine Babesiasis raging in Xi'an was Babesia Gibsoni and the epidemic seasons were spring,summer and autumn.The definite diagnosis was made mainly according to clinical manifestations and the examination of laboratory blood smears.Triamidine was selected as the drug insecticide of this disease,which combined with symptomatic treatment and nutritional support therapy could achieve good effects.The prevention of Canine Babesiasis was mainly to prevent ticks biting.
